Inheritance Tax Planning
Case Study
Carving Up the Country Hall to Save Tax
A Shacklocks client owned a magnificent hall in the country which included a range of semi-derelict outbuildings.
The value of the property (which did not qualify for reliefs) would give rise to a substantial Inheritance Tax liability on her death. The size of the Inheritance Tax liability would force a sale of the hall. The client and her family were desperate to preserve the hall as a family asset.
Shacklocks Estate planning Team worked with the lady and her children to set up a series of transactions (some involving complex Trust arrangements), resulting in a significant reduction in the value of the estate to a point where the preservation of the hall for the family can now be assured.
